All About Anna Shabalina
The Power of Music
Anna began her musical journey at the age of 9, studying cello and piano. After a few years in a public music school, she entered Kazan Conservatoire Music College. She also picked up a guitar and began vocal training alongside her cello studies. Anna continued her musical education at the prestigious Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow, specializing as a cellist.
During her studies, she participated in festivals, competitions, and masterclasses with some of the world’s most famous cellists and other renowned European musicians. She performed with various chamber groups and as an invited artist for smaller Moscow orchestras, all while beginning her teaching career.
After completing her studies, Anna spent several years in India, where she took part in a range of concerts, festivals, and musical improvisation sessions as both a cellist** and singer. She also recorded cello and musical saw parts for several albums with international musicians.
In 2019, Anna relocated to Canada, eager to explore new opportunities. Since then, she has been an active cellist in Halifax and Toronto, performing on various stages. She collaborated with classical chamber ensembles and pop bands and performed at events such as Art Starts TO and DNA Project, as a solo musician and with ensembles.
During the pandemic, Anna teamed up with a Russian-Canadian pianist to arrange and perform tango and classical music. They held several in-person and online concerts. Recently, she moved to the East Coast, continuing her career as a cellist in Halifax, where she offers cello performances for events, collaborates with other musicians, and works as a cello teacher in Halifax.
